A Path Beyond Primary School

A scholarship opens new possibilities for a rural student and his family.

Education beyond primary school once felt far off for Noah Saruni. After participating in his school’s wildlife club and performing well on his qualifying exam, he earned a full secondary school scholarship.

Dozens of rural youth now receive six-year scholarships that cover school fees, boarding, and supplies. For Noah, attending boarding school meant leaving home for new experiences and broader opportunities. He dreams of becoming a pilot and hopes to work in animal science.

With six siblings, his progress encourages his family. He shares environmental knowledge with his parents and helps them practice Kiswahili alongside their Maa language. His mother has used those language skills to pursue work outside the home.

A scholarship like this, particularly for the oldest child. reshapes expectations within a household. Younger siblings see a distinct path forward. Parents begin to place importance on education as a long-term investment.

For Noah, learning also carries responsibility. He intends to return what he gains to his community.
