ACTIVE Leads the Way

The documentation and global dissemination of the ACTIVE Community Engagement framework was a pivotal milestone for African People & Wildlife, revolutionizing how we create and scale impact across Tanzania and beyond. Based on our organizational values, this innovative approach empowers communities as co-creators of sustainable solutions to environmental and societal challenges.

ACTIVE serves as a vital element of our work, shaping partnerships with government ministries, conservation organizations, and the communities we work with in Tanzania. Its success has elevated APW’s role as a leader in community conservation, fostering impactful collaborations such as our work with the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project and the Tanzania National Parks Authority.

Leading this movement toward community-led practices is both a privilege and a reflection of our earned expertise. Designed to tackle critical issues like climate change, habitat loss, and sustainable livelihoods, we believe the ACTIVE framework is built to last. Its adoption in six African nations and with partners abroad underscores its versatility and effectiveness, setting a new standard for conservation and international development.

Now is a time of unprecedented opportunity to lead an inclusive and sustainable conservation movement in Africa. We will embrace this moment to bring Indigenous communities, government agencies, NGOs, and conservationists together to protect our wild heritage for the benefit of all.
