Community Game Scouts race to the finish in the Wildlife Ranger Challenge

In 2020, amidst the Covid-19 crisis, the Wildlife Ranger Challenge was created by Tusk with a mission to support wildlife rangers during trying times and celebrate their dedication. Racing through Africa's diverse landscapes, these rangers push themselves for a common cause: raising critical funds for frontline conservation.

On September 16, 2023, over 100 ranger teams embarked on a coordinated 21km race, each carrying 22kg of gear. And what a race it was! APW-supported Community Game Scouts triumphed for the second time in three years, with the two teams claiming both first and second place and finishing only minutes apart.

In their everyday lives, Community Game Scouts are committed to protecting wildlife and supporting people living alongside them in the communal lands surrounding Tarangire National Park. Thanks to past support from the Wildlife Ranger Challenge, this co-ed team expanded from 4 to 11 members and has been equipped with a vehicle and phones for efficient tracking and data collection during patrols. Join us in celebrating the teams on their incredible achievements and contributions to fostering human-wildlife coexistence.
